About Nonprofit Voice
A Publication for the UK Charity Sector
Free to read, free to be listed, and written for the charities the bigger titles overlook.
Nonprofit Voice publishes stories, guidance and news for the UK charity sector. Alongside it, we run a directory of registered UK charities, so a reader who finishes an article has somewhere to go next.
Most sector publications are written for fundraising directors at large national charities, and most sit behind a subscription. We are aimed at the rest of the sector: smaller organisations doing the work without a communications team, and the donors, volunteers and businesses trying to find them.
Everything we publish is free to read. Every charity listing is free to create.
What Nonprofit Voice Does
Charities do difficult work and then struggle to get anyone to hear about it. Donors want to give but cannot tell one organisation from another. Nonprofit Voice sits between the two: a place to publish what a charity has done, and a place for a supporter to find it. Size is not the qualification. A three-trustee CIO gets the same treatment as a national organisation.
What We Publish
Stories from charities about work they have actually done, with names and outcomes rather than adjectives. Practical guidance on fundraising, governance and compliance, taken from the regulators rather than from other people’s blog posts. Sector news, insight from people who run organisations, and announcements charities want on the record.
We would rather publish one piece with a named source than five that repeat what everyone else has already said. Where we do not know something, we say so.
Nonprofit Voice is a reliable resource if you’re looking for a Big UK charity list or a directory of charity organisations in the UK.
Who We Are For
Three audiences, wanting different things from the same site:
- Charities - trustees, chief executives, fundraisers and communications leads
- Donors, supporters and volunteers choosing where to give their money or time
- Businesses and funders with something to say to the charity sector
If you run a charity, you get somewhere to be read and somewhere to be found. If you are looking for a cause, you get more than a name and a registration number to go on.
The Charity Directory
An article about food poverty should end somewhere useful. That is what the directory is for.
- Free to list, with no commission on anything a supporter gives you
- Your charity described in your own words, not summarised from a register
- Linked from articles where the connection is genuine
We are not trying to hold a record for every charity in the country. The regulators already do that, and do it better. What we offer is a profile that reads like your organisation, sitting next to writing that gives someone a reason to care.
Free to Read, Free to List
- No subscription, no paywall, no article held back for members
- No fee to appear in the directory, with paid options only if you want them
The site is funded by advertising, sponsored articles and premium listings. That is the whole model, and it is why the next section exists.
How We Handle Paid Content
Paid pieces carry a clear advertisement feature label above the headline, so you know before you start reading. Their links are marked as paid and pass no search credit. Advertisers reach our readers; they do not buy a place in search results. Paid content stays inside our subject, the UK charity sector, and stays a minority of what the Media Hub publishes.
A placement is never an endorsement. Appearing on Nonprofit Voice, listed or paid, does not mean we have assessed an organisation’s finances or vouched for its work. Check before you give.
If a piece is paid, you will be able to tell. If you ever cannot, that is a mistake and we would like to hear about it.
Our Mission and Relationship
Smaller charities are often doing the most interesting work and getting the least attention for it. Our aim is to narrow that gap, to give organisations without a communications budget somewhere to be heard, and to give donors and volunteers enough to go on when they are deciding who to support.
Nonprofit Voice is a service of Evolve Catalyst LTD, a company registered in England and Wales that provides charity management consultancy to UK charities. Evolve Catalyst is responsible for the platform and everything published on it.
