About the Charity

Charity Mission
To end premature birth – everywhere and forever. We fund research to advance our knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth, and improve the lives of mothers and babies.

Every child should have the chance of a full life that is unaffected by disability. Our vision is a world in which a child’s first day on earth would not have to be their hardest. Through our pioneering research, we can make that vision a reality.

Borne brings scientists and doctors together to advance our understanding of pregnancy and to identify treatments
and training that will improve pregnancy outcomes and optimise fetal development. Our work has yielded new insight to the processes that trigger the onset of labour. We recently embarked on a new treatment trial to delay the onset of preterm labour. This is very exciting as we are finding a new application for an existing, readily available drug and are close to identifying an effective therapy for women at high risk of early delivery. If we can prolong every preterm labour by even a week, we would significantly improve the chances of these babies surviving and thriving, and save the NHS over £260 million a year.
